What we achieved – 2016-2021
During the past five years, Advancing Aberystwyth have successfully delivered a range of projects and services to strengthen our business community. These were delivered under key themes identified by businesses during consultation prior to the 2016 ballot. The 4 themes were:
- Promoting & Enhancing Our Offer
- Building Business Community
- Improving Access & Connectivity
- Strengthening Relationships and Communications between Public and Private sector
In 2020, many of the projects were postponed, and we acted swiftly to provide alternative support for business in response to the COVID 19 pandemic.
Leveraging Additional Income
One of the key highlights in our first term has been our success of securing additional income into the town to allow us to deliver more projects to benefit businesses. In total, we secured an additional £233,500 for the town, which was approximately £1 of an additional income for every £3 of levy income we collected.
Examples include:
- Securing £48,000 from WGs Tourism Amenity Investment Support fund for our Digital Tourism project where we developed the Aber App, Town Wifi and Digital Signs.
- Securing £20,000 from WGs Transforming Town’s Fund to create outdoor seating areas.
- Sponsorship – including £10,000 per year for our Ice Rink & Winterland.
- Events – ticket sales
